WEEK 4: Unit 4

This weeks topic was especially interesting to me because technology in the medical/scientific field has changed our world completely. Because of the technologies mentioned, such as x-rays, MRIs, & ultrasounds, we have been able to alter the perception that the human body is looked at in.

These technologies were discovered because artists wanted to know more and more about the human body in order to depict it accurately. So once again, human curiosity has been the basis of phenomenal discoveries. Anatomy is a form of art because the diagrams have to be made properly for people to learn from as a visual. These diagrams include full body sculptures of muscles and organs as well as detailed drawings.

I have personally used x-Rays, MRIs and ultra sound equipment in my life. I can not imagine the healthcare system without it. Having access to these types of machines has changed the lives of many as well as the way the human body is treated. Thanks to art, we can now learn about the body and continue learning by teaching it through art. I think it is important that people understand that art has contributed to many scientific discoveries.

  1. I really enjoyed your post, and agreed with a lot of things you had to say. I really related to when you talked about how useful the healthcare equipment is because it does involve people every day. It's really amazing how many lives have been saved thanks to art and medicine working together!

  2. I agree with what you have to say regarding the influence of art on medicine and technologies and how it has benefited our lives in so many ways. I have also used MRIs, X-rays and ultra sound technologies for health issues and could not imagine where I would be today with out them.

  3. I feel exactly the same about the technology in the medical and scientific field has changed and also improved our world completely. Because of it, life expectancy is getting longer and longer in the many parts of the world. I believe that an interest or a question which arose in artists' and scientists' mind eventually made all these technology come true, and that tells me that it is very important to question myself why something is the way it is. Children often say, "Why?" because they do not take anything for granted as adults often do. Artists and scientist who were introduced in this week's lecture must have had that type of curiosity.
